CyberDynamic is a research and development organisation. We work across medical and biological systems, electronics, communications and artificial intelligence — and mostly on problems that need more than one of them at once.
Applied research, taken through to something that works
We take on problems where the answer is not yet known and existing products do not reach — a phenomenon somebody needs to observe reliably, a link that has to work somewhere difficult, a decision that has to be made from data nobody has successfully modelled.
The four disciplines we work in are conventional enough on their own. What makes them useful together is that the hard part of most instrument programmes sits on the boundaries between them: a firmware sampling decision that constrains every analysis downstream, a radio duty cycle that decides what the device is able to measure at all, an analysis that assumes a signal quality the front end cannot deliver.
Those decisions have owners in our work. That is most of what we are for.
Between a laboratory and an engineering contractor
A university group will investigate the question. A contract manufacturer will build to a specification. The expensive gap is in between — where the question has to become a specification, and the specification has to survive contact with physics, cost and regulation.
That gap is where we work. It means we are comfortable ending a programme with a well-evidenced "this does not work", and equally comfortable carrying a design through to something manufacturable when it does.
Constraints we take seriously
Safety and regulation
Work intended for clinical or safety-related use is built to its regulatory obligations from the first day. Where a piece of work is research rather than a regulated deliverable, we say so plainly.
Data protection
Human-subject and personal data work proceeds on the basis of appropriate approval and a lawful basis, with data minimisation designed into the collection rather than applied afterwards.
Honest evidence
Claims about a system come with the method, the conditions and the limits. We publish negative results to clients with the same care as positive ones.
